Ebola Outbreak: A Virtual Journey is a VR documentary filmed in the heart of West Africa which immerses users in the spread of the Ebola virus, allowing them to experience the scale and impact of this deadly epidemic first hand. The 11-minute adventure was filmed using 360° cameras and was created in collaboration with FRONTLINE and Columbia University’s Tow Center for Digital Journalism to create a completely unique experience.
To reach a wider audience, we worked on adapting the full documentary experience by creating both a downloadable app and a mono Facebook experience.
View on App Store View on FacebookAfter filming, I worked with a team of motionographers, CGI artists, designers and sound designers to create a VR experience and use this new platform to transcend traditional journalism methods and shock users in a way which had never been done before.
The experience had to put users in the middle of the action and immerse them using technology which would not ave been impossible before the introduction of VR.
As we shoot footage on site, I worked with the team here to create storyboards and concept art to evoke the mood and direction the expereince should convey.
